Three steps before you start toilet training your little one

Toilet training or potty training is a stage every parent goes through. But if they plan for it from the beginning it will be much easier to toilet train your toddler.
Concept of dirty nappy:
First of all you need to give your child a concept of dirty nappy. How to do it? very  easy. All you have to do when you notice your child has soiled their nappy, take them to change and talk to them like.. "Aww smelly nappy.".make funny faces smile and do action because children usually pick  up body language first. "Shall we change it? ""lets make you all clean".."now all clean.." pretend you smell air and say" hmm nice and fresh" .. pick them and throw nappy in the bin and say bye dirty nappy let you toddler join in with you usually they like waving. Every time you repeat this routine when change their nappy your child will pick this and do join you in action of bad smell etc.
Child's respond on dirty nappy:
Next step is when you see your child doing poo after a while go to them touch their nappy and tap and say "have you done a poopoo?" hold your nose as you dont like smell. Sooner you will notice when you ask child "have you done a poo?" your child will respond you in their own way as they fully understand you.
Sitting on toilet seat:
Next step is sitting on toilet. No child can be toilet train in one week if they already not introduce to toilet. Some people prefer keeping potty seat first but in my opinion it will double your work to train them from potty seat to toilet seat. Now days you can easily buy toddlers toilet seat to use in your home toilet. In the beginning when you wake up in morning and go for washing your face put your child on toilet seat on toilet give them tooth brush to chew on. In five days they will start enjoying sitting on toilet seat messing with tooth paste and brush and watching you.Meanwhile you are working on them as above. Dont take their nappy or clothes off yet let them get familiar with height of your toilet.

New born baby? How to mange your daily routine..

Congratulations you have a new born baby and if you are first time mum then welcome to parenthood.
I have seen many mums struggling to carry out their daily routine once they have a baby.
Here are few tips which will help them to work out when and what can they do.

Timings: New born baby will be more often hungry for first 10 days especially if you are breast feeding.First 3 four days you have to feed them whenever they cry.And for breast feeding you have to offer them more so your body will produce more milk.In case of bottle feeding babies dont get hungry much quicker. In  first five days you will get the idea how often your baby is hungry.I will suggest you to write it down time when you offer them milk, and how much milk they drank . Then each feed write the time down. After 24 hours look at your table it will give you a clear idea how often your baby drinks milk and how much.
Now you can plan when to go out for shopping and find a place to feed them when the feed time is near.

Baby Cries: You need to learn what is baby cry for hunger.Because baby can cry for so may reasons they might be tired, sleepy, uncomfortable in the position we put them in, they might feeling hot, they might have dirty nappy etc.You have to look for hunger sign usually babies start putting their fingers in their mouth get restless and make slow cries with a gap and if they dont get milk they cries louder. This mean they are hungry plus timetable chart can help you to guess as well.Following link might help you for better understanding of baby cry.

Cook easy recipe food:And if you dont have any family to support and have older children to look after,  it is very stressful to breastfeed. In this case it will be a good idea that you keep some food ready in your freezer for first five days. After that  use simple and easy recipes for cooking like pasta with a ready made pasta sauce, stir fried noodles, chicken fried rice, cheese potato pie with beans, yogurts or custard for desert with any cake made by cake mix powders etc, There are many simple ways easy and quick recipes are very handy for you to prepare and feed other members of family.( I will be adding easy cook recipes for Asian and world food in my time to time that might be useful).

Cold compress..Every mum must know how to make and use cold compress

When your baby takes a first step  its a very exciting moment. But it is the time you should be ready and alert to treat your little ones bumped injuries.Yes! our little angels are so determine to walk that they do not give up no matter how many times they fell over or bumped into things.
Every time they bumped into things they hurt themselves and you need to use cold compress to make sure they do not get bruised or swell. What is cold compress? here is the definition.

Cold compression therapy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Cold Compression Therapy combines two of the principles of R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) to reduce pain and swelling from a sports or activity injury to soft tissues and recommended by orthopedic surgeons following surgery. The therapy is especially useful for sprains, strains, pulled muscles and pulled ligaments.

A cold compress is used to cool an injured area, which protects body tissue by slowing metabolic rate and reducing swelling around the injury. A cold compress can range from a cloth dipped in cold water to a commercially available pad or pouch that is made cold through freezing or chemical action. Cold compresses are an important part of treating soft tissue injuries such as strains, sprains, bruises, and toothaches.
http://www.wikihow.com/Apply-a-Cold-Compres

How to cold compress your little one:

At home when your toddler bumped into some things and cry.First thing when you pick your child you should search where is the injury? Is  it on the forehead or back of head or nose etc.
  1. If there is a bruise appeared ,you should not wait longer you should straight away put a cold compress on the injured area and hold it for good three minutes with out gap. Then check the injured area how much is the bruise? If your child has hurt themselves hard then there will be a visible bruise , you should place the cold compress back on the injured area. During this time your toddler will cry because they do not like to be held in one position. But you should be strong and firm. If they cries badly give a minute gap to calm them down offer them something to distract and put cold compress back on the injured area until bruise goes down. It will maximum take 5 to 10 minutes only. But your baby will have no more pain after that and there will not be any bruise or swelling left.
  2. If your child has cut their lip or hit their mouth and its bleeding you should offer them cold water  And do apply cold compress if you can but if injury is inside mouth or lips you can offer them any ice lolly. Toddlers usually loves ice lolly and keep it in their mouth in this way you can cold compress them. But if bleeding does not stop you should consult doctor.
  3. If you are not sure what to do you can ring your health visitor or ring NHS direct advice line(UK residents)
  4. There is a possibility that when your little one got hurt you could not find cold compress. Dont worry you should check in your freezer you would have ice cubes or frozen vegetables or frozen package food,  wrap them in cotton cloth and use it as a cold compress.
  5. One thing is very important NEVER use home made cold compress direct to the injured skin It will cause frostbite. Use any cloth barrier between compress and injured skin.
  6. Make sure that cold compress completely cover the injured area.

Some ideas to keep your children occopied during half term

Half term is here and children are home. Its very common children claiming "I am BORED"and as a parent we know its not possible to take them out  every day.So there are few tips how we can keep our children occupied and get household work done as well.
Make holidays TIME TABLE t.It should not be too tight like a army just plan few things for a day. That will be more than enough. Do not forget your children do need relax time as well as you .

1.Cleaning:
Every day we do need cleaning. We can use this to keep children occupied.

  • Plan your monthly cleaning and involve children to design a chart board one task for each day. (You can divide task base on each room.)
  •  Ask children to do wiping boards ,tables, cupboards, wardrobes etc.It can be cleaning their wardrobes taking unwanted clothes out Fold or hang clothes in order.

  • Make it fun for them play their favorite music on the back ground. Do funky dance movements to keep them entertain and engage.
  • They may take too long to complete cleaning offer them snacks breaks. You can choose crisp or juice or cake.anything to fresh them up.
  • While they cleaning set up timer can help some times.
2.Visiting friends:
Let them visit or invite friends over to play. Or use your garden or outside play while you are doing your cooking. Give them free play time.

3. Planting: Do some gardening with them and let them plan some thing to plant with their name labels and give them responsibility to grow that plant and take care of it. If they are old enough to search on internet ask them to choose their own plant and write down instruction how to grow their plant. They will enjoy it.

4.Making Scrap book:
Make a scrap book in which they can put their photo prints .Ask them to search for  five things they find interesting in their garden take photo of them and print it out and find details about it.Help them when they need. Remember your involvement is very important.

5.Cooking:
You can do some cooking with children it all depends what age they are in. In cooking baking, cutting fruit salad. making milkshake or smoothies anything your children show interest.

6.Relaxing time:
  • Let them watch their TV and relax. If they want o lie down , read book or watch TV.
  • Do some home work related activities with them.It can be alphabets numbers. or reading words, or for older children sum up books or brain games.
7.General play:
Painting, play dough, coloring, drawing are general play younger children enjoys.Or family indoor games snap, ludo, snakes and ladders etc. Or in the garden they can do cycling, foot ball, playing tennis or badminton etc. Always remember children enjoys more if you join with them.

Here you go your main day is past and your children are not BORED. Your involvement is very important .Take school holidays as your golden time to bond with them and win their trust. You will be surprise that how many new things you will find out about your children when you spend time with them. Their strengths , weaknesses. thoughts and their personality. And most important is you can guide your children and support them better if you know them as a friend.

Skin eczema?.. You can control it!

What is eczema?

Eczema is a dry, itchy skin condition that affects up to one in five children. It usually appears for the first time before your child is two years old. The good news is that most children who have eczema will grow out of the condition by the time they are in their teens. Eczema can't be cured, but it can be controlled with the right treatments.
Eczema is also known as atopic eczema, or atopic dermatitis. Atopic means that your child has inherited the tendency to develop conditions such as eczema, asthma and hayfever. The end result is the same: dry, itchy, red and cracked skin, which can sometimes ooze fluid and bleed. The areas most affected in babies are the hands, face, neck, elbows and backs of the knees
Having eczema means that the skin's barrier doesn't work as well as it should, which makes it drier. His skin will be more prone to infections and allergens can enter the skin more easily, which can make the condition worse.

http://www.babycentre.co.uk/a541297/baby-eczema-causes-symptoms-treatments-and-creams#ixzz3Rp3tcBcg

How to control eczema?
So far no one knows exactly what causes eczema. But as a mum you will be worried if your child is having skin eczema. This is true that you can not treat eczema  completely. But there are so many ways you can control it and your baby's and child's skin can look as clearer as others. I have been given these tips to control eczema  by my health visitor and I followed all of them and still following them and  it really worked . Result is my daughter's skin is as clear as my other child who does not have eczema. Please read carefully and do try them all. Iam sure as a mother you want best for your child.

Avoid perfumed Bath soaps Or Shampoos:
First of all if you have new born baby please do not use perfumed bath soaps or oil. Listen to your midwife. Here in UK they advise us give new born baby bath with water only at least first ten days. if you think carefully water is natural where perfumed bath soaps are full of chemicals. Keep your baby away from chemicals as much as you can. Especially if your baby is having sign of eczema.
And if you have older child diagnosed eczema then too i would say use the lotion and shampoo made for eczema treatment. They are with no perfume.

Stay away from perfume:
As a mother or parent you should avoid perfumes or body sprays especially if you have infants with you. When ever you pick them up their sensitive skin will get in touch with perfume which may flare their eczema rash.
In older children I will advise them not to use perfumes or body sprays. As a parent if you encourage them it will be much easy for them. Or at least do not let perfume directly get contacted to their skin.

Room Temperature:
Too much heat can flare up eczema so keep your house ventilated enough. In case of babies avoid wrapping them in too much clothes and keep the room temperature temperate

Cotton Clothes:.
Use only 100% cotton clothes. They are soft and gentle for their sensitive skin. Other wise nylon or silky clothes can flares up their eczema before you notice.Avoid fleece blankets or velour clothes.

Non bio washing powder:
There are two kind of washing powders Biological or Non Biological washing powder .Like me there will be lots of mums who are unaware of it. Non biological washing powder is suitable for eczema skin and for babies. You can buy them from any supermarkets or check on your washing powders they do have this description on them that are they bio or non bio. In UK we do have Fairy Non Bio washing powder and even we do have Asdsa and Tesco Non Bio washing powders.

Use creams and lotions prescribed for Eczema:
Use your prescribed creams and lotion whenever needed . Always keep spares at home so you do not run out of them and if you do use E45 it usually suits eczema skin. Its not necessary that all creams suit your child always use one at a time and if your child's skin react to it change the cream. There might be any ingredient  in that cream that does not suit your child's sensitive skin.

Health Visitors:
In UK i will advise all my friends to consult Health visitors for any confusion they have. They will guide them on every step like my health visitor did.

Information links for skin eczema:
You can find much more support or information and help online especially non UK residents I will suggest to check online for more details .There is  plenty information available for eczema. Here are some links.
